Election 2008 - Get Informed

Voting 3rd Party is NOT throwing your vote away.  Voting for a candidate without knowing their stance on key issues is throwing your vote away.  Feel free to use the following tools to educate yourself before you enter the booth on Tuesday.

Election 2008 3rd Party Spotlight - Green Party

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

I posted last week (you can read it below) on how McCain and Obama are not the only two options you’ll have in the voting booth this November 4th. Come to find out, there are four 3rd Party candidates on the Massachusetts ballot. I’ve decided to spotlight one each Tuesday this month. THESE ARE NOT CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS. I’m simply endorsing the idea that there are options other than the Dems & Reps. Next up:

GREEN PARTY Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (GA)/Rosa Clemente

  • advocates for election reform (removal of privately-owned voting machines, restrictions on corporate donations)
  • would repeal the Patriot Act and any other legislation that rolls back civil liberties
  • immigration reform plan includes amnesty for undocumented workers already in the country
  • would nationalize the Federal Reserve as a Department within the U.S. Treasury
  • for a universal-access, single-payer health care system

Again, THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT. I’m simply doing some of the legwork for you in hoping that you’ll do the rest yourself & enter the booth informed & educated on ALL of the candidates. And don’t let anyone tell you that voting 3rd party is throwing your vote away. Oftentimes those are the people that want you to toe THEIR party line & put your own feelings on the issues aside. If your stance on the issues jives with one of the major party candidates, good for you & good luck. But if it doesn’t, and you find one of these 3rd party candidates a better fit, give them your vote. That’s REAL change.

Election 2008 3rd Party Spotlight - Libertarian Party

I’m simply endorsing the idea that there are options other than the Dems & Reps. Next up:

LIBERTARIAN PARTY Former Congressman Bob Barr (GA)/Wayne Allyn Root (NV)

  • would push for exploration of domestic energy production (i.e. oil shale, drillilng in AK)
  • ardent supporter of 4th Amendment; critical of overuse of surveillance by current administration on U.S. citizens
  • supports quick exit from Iraq but would not set a specific timetable
  • against socialized medicine in any form
  • open to alternatives to tax reform, such as a flat tax or the Fair Tax

Election 2008 - Where Do You Stand?

Thanks to Commie Chris for passing this link along.  Reading the intro & filling out the Survey will take you less than 10 minutes.  As Chris says, it’s a great way to figure out where you stand on the economy & government authority.  Just another tool to help you make an informed decision this November.

Election 2008 3rd Party Spotlight - Constitution Party

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

I posted last week (you can read it below) on how McCain and Obama are not the only two options you’ll have in the voting booth this November 4th.  Come to find out, there are four 3rd Party candidates on the Massachusetts ballot.  I’ve decided to spotlight one each Tuesday this month.  THESE ARE NOT CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS.  I’m simply endorsing the idea that there are options other than the Dems & Reps.  First up:

CONSTITUTION PARTY Chuck Baldwin (FL)/Darren Castle (TN)

  • endorsed my Congressman Ron Paul
  • if elected, would disband the Department of Education
  • for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq
  • pro-life

Election 2008 - Change

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Friday night’s debate really opened my eyes to the fact that neither Sen. McCain nor Sen. Obama are the “agents of change” they claim to be.  Same old question-dodging, same old “I never said that!  And nevermind what I said…HE said he wanted to do THIS!!!”  Terrible.  Now, while I do find redeeming qualities in both major candidates, both are products of a broken political system that is out of touch with the everyday needs & concerns of the American people.

True change will come from outside of the system, when the career politicians and millionaires currently in power are replaced by leaders who will put aside the Parties and their lines.  Some of these leaders are running this year (not that you’d know from the coverage on the national news networks); some of them have experience, some of them don’t.  The point is, we have options.

Will a third party candidate win in ‘08?  HELL no.  But if we start “thinking third” this year and make it part of our personal political process, we’ll be headed in a better direction.  As for me, I’m tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.  I plan on starting here & doing some homework, researching ALL of the candidates, and voting for the one who best represents my views and concerns, whether they belong to a major political party or not.  God bless you if you do the same.
